We help books travel
Andrew Nurnberg Associates Budapest opened in 1996. Thirty years later we are one of the oldest and most experienced literary agencies in this part of Europe, and the work itself has barely changed: we read, we fall for something, and then we find it a home in another language.
We do that in two directions. We bring the lists of international publishers and agencies to editors in Hungary and Croatia. And since 2024 we take authors from Central Europe out to publishers across the continent.
Books do not travel on their own. Somebody has to know both sides well enough to make the introduction, and then stay with the deal through contract, payment and publication. That is the job, and we have been doing it for three decades.

A trained agent's eye is exactly what an editor or a proprietor wants on their side of the table. We read the submissions, and we find the bestsellers.

Knowing a publisher's list well enough to know what it is missing is most of the work. We pay attention to profiles, not just to catalogues.

Accurately and quickly. Editors come back to agencies that make a deal easy, and thirty years of repeat business is built on exactly that.

Judit Hermann
Owner and Managing Director
I am the owner and managing director of Andrew Nurnberg Literary Agency in Budapest. I started here thirty years ago because of Andrew Nurnberg himself, and my love of books has only grown since.
What I enjoy most is following a book’s journey, from the moment we take it on to the day it reaches Hungarian or Croatian readers. Finding the right home for a title comes down to a great many small details, and I like making sure each one is done well. I also love discovering new books and beautiful covers, and seeing old friends and new ones at the fairs. Most of all, I feel lucky to work in an industry full of passionate people.
Ivica Ďuricová
External Literary Agent
I have loved books since I learned to read at four. Since then I have sat on all three sides of the table: as an author, a publisher and a literary agent.
My first book was published in 2014 and eleven more have followed in several languages. I founded the publishing house Adlervia Press, and today I also work as an external literary agent with ANA Budapest, where the European Authors Department is something we built together. My aim is straightforward: commercial fiction and non fiction from this part of Europe is every bit as good as what the West produces, and it deserves the same reach.

I joined Andrew Nurnberg Budapest in 2013, and the work is still as exciting to me as it was at the beginning. Perhaps that is because no two days, books or deals are ever the same: I am always learning something, meeting someone new, taking on something I have not done before. The greatest joy is when a deal finally comes together after a long negotiation, and months later I see the book on a shelf in a bookshop, knowing that I helped bring it to its readers.

I joined the Budapest office of Andrew Nurnberg Literary Agency in 2023. As a born bookworm, it was a true delight to step into such a vast universe of authors and titles. At the agency I look after the contracts, doing my best to keep the process as smooth as possible. Away from work I am a passionate translator and animal lover, a good (vegetarian) cook, and devoted to India and its ancient wisdom.

I joined the agency in 2025 and I’m still learning something new every day. I get to work with so many wonderful people, and to play a small part in bringing fantastic books to readers in Hungary and Croatia. One of my favourite things about the job is sneaking a peek at the newest covers: the beautiful edges, the foils, the exclusive editions and all the design that goes into them. The work also takes me to book fairs and bookish events, and I always try to make the most of those trips by seeing as much of each place as I can!

I’ve always felt most at home among stories. With a librarian for a mother, I practically grew up surrounded by books, so a career in the literary world was perhaps inevitable. I joined the agency in 2026 and I’m excited to see where this next chapter takes me.
