Submissions

We take on very few authors, and we are specific about who. Please read this page before you write. It sets out exactly what we are looking for and what we need from you, and it will save us both a good deal of time.

Before anything else

You control your own translation rights

If your domestic publisher holds your foreign rights, we are unfortunately not able to represent you. This is the single most common reason we have to say no, so it is worth checking your contract before you write.

Eligibility

We are looking for

  1. 01The title you are pitching was a bestseller at homeAnd you can show it: a link or a screenshot of the list.
  2. 02A published backlist, not a debutWe do not represent unpublished authors.
  3. 03Minimum 10,000 copies soldRealistically we are looking for authors in the tens or hundreds of thousands.
  4. 04Published outside your home market is a strong advantageNot a requirement, but it helps.
  5. 05Our focus is Central EuropeThough we do consider exceptional authors from elsewhere in Europe.

What we represent

  • Commercial fiction: contemporary romance, dark romance, romantasy, crime fiction and related subgenres
  • Self help non fiction with clear commercial potential, a distinctive voice, and an author with a strong personal brand presence

What we do not represent

We are not currently taking on literary fiction.

  • Poetry
  • Theatre plays
  • Screenplays
  • Children's books
  • Academic writing
  • Illustrators

We also do not represent authors in their domestic market. We sell your rights abroad; your home publisher stays your home publisher.

Language. Everything in English please: synopsis, bio and sample. Hungarian, Slovak and Czech originals are the only exceptions.

We are currently closed to submissions from Slovakia. Authors from all other countries are welcome to write to us as usual.

Email everything to us in a single message. Please use this exact subject line so your submission is filed correctly:

Opens your mail client with the subject line already filled in. Or write to budapest@nurnberg.hu yourself.

Please do not attach large files. If your sample is long, send a link instead.

What happens next

We aim to respond within 8 weeks. If you have not heard from us in that time, we are unfortunately not able to take your work further.

We read everything that meets the criteria above. We are a small team, so we are not able to give individual feedback on work we turn down.
